Interlinear Bible AI — Help
AI modes, API keys, privacy, limits, and cache recovery
AI modes
Own API key (BYOK) sends AI requests directly from your browser to Gemini and/or OpenRouter. Your provider key stays in this browser's local storage and is not sent to the Bible retrieval Worker.
Hosted server API sends the question to this Cloudflare Worker. The Worker uses provider API keys stored as Cloudflare secrets. Those secret values are never returned to the browser.
The Disable most client limits option works only in BYOK mode. Hosted mode always uses limits chosen by the site operator.
Get a Gemini API key
Google provides Gemini API keys through Google AI Studio. Create/copy a key, then paste it into Settings → Gemini → API key.
Get an OpenRouter API key
Create an OpenRouter key, then paste it into Settings → OpenRouter fallback → API key. OpenRouter account credits/model availability are separate from this application.
Browser storage and privacy
BYOK provider keys, the optional Bible API access key, settings,
recent/saved questions, and chat history are stored in browser
localStorage.
Browser local storage is origin/profile-local convenience storage; it is not a hardware-backed secret vault.
Refresh stale app files
If a deployment still shows old JavaScript or old API behavior, use Refresh app in the top toolbar.
It clears Cache Storage and unregisters the current service worker,
then reloads the app. It deliberately does not
clear localStorage, so API keys, settings, saved
questions, recent questions, and chat history remain.
Retrieval
Bible data is retrieved deterministically from the Cloudflare D1 corpus. The AI model does not receive arbitrary SQL access.
